  • A pure proprietary gas trading role with real risk capital and clear P&L accountability

  • Opportunity to trade European gas with exposure to JKM (Asia) and Henry Hub (US)

  • Direct impact on Eneco’s trading performance in a fast‑moving market environment

Why choose Eneco?

At Eneco, proprietary trading plays a meaningful role in accelerating the energy transition. You’ll be part of a commercially sharp and well‑governed trading environment where market expertise is used to support a sustainable energy system — today and in the future.

You join an organisation where responsibility and ownership are central. Decisions are data‑driven, market‑focused and taken close to the action, giving you the autonomy to act while operating within a clear risk framework.

You’ll work closely with experienced traders, analysts and risk professionals who challenge each other and raise the bar together. Strong performance is recognised and rewarded, with clear accountability for outcomes.

Most importantly, Eneco offers the space to bring ideas, take calculated risks and make a real impact — both on trading performance and on the broader energy transition.

What you’ll do

You identify, develop and execute proprietary trading opportunities across global gas markets, with a clear focus on Asian LNG (JKM) and North American natural gas (Henry Hub). Using a deep understanding of fundamentals, market dynamics and cross-market linkages, you translate insights into actionable trades that generate consistent P&L.

As a Senior Gas Trader, you design, implement and manage end‑to‑end trading strategies. You take meaningful positions with confidence, actively manage risk and handle drawdowns with discipline and professionalism. Your decisions balance commercial ambition with robust risk management.

You operate independently while remaining closely aligned with the broader trading desk. By sharing insights, challenging views and contributing to desk-wide objectives, you help strengthen the overall performance and strategic ambitions of the proprietary trading team.

Is this about you?

You are a confident, driven trader who is comfortable taking responsibility and making decisions under pressure. You bring ideas, act on them, and understand that performance comes from disciplined execution. You have:

  • Around 5–10 years of trading experience, with at least 3 years in a proprietary trading environment;
  • Recent and relevant prop trading experience (not historical);
  • A quantitative or economics‑based academic background;
  • Experience managing meaningful positions and drawdowns;
  • Proven ability to operate with real risk capital and deliver consistent results;
  • Strong understanding of gas market fundamentals;
  • Strong understanding of JKM and HH pricing dynamics and LNG contract structures;
  • The confidence to challenge, convince and collaborate within a senior team;
  • A mindset focused on performance, ownership and long‑term contribution.

Nice to have:

  • Experience trading cross-commodity spreads;
  • Knowledge of LNG shipping economics and chartering;
  • Experience at recognised trading organisations (e.g. utilities, trading houses, banks, funds).

You’ll be responsible for

  • Developing and executing proprietary gas trading strategies across short‑ and longer‑term horizons;
  • Actively trading European gas markets, with exposure to JKM and Henry Hub;
  • Managing risk positions within defined Value at Risk (VaR) limits;
  • Taking ownership of P&L performance and contributing to desk‑level results;
  • Translating market fundamentals (supply, demand, flows, geopolitics) into actionable trades;
  • Working closely with analysts to validate ideas and strengthen conviction;
  • Sharing insights and trade ideas with other traders to strengthen overall performance;
  • Continuously improving execution, timing and risk utilisation.

This is where you’ll work

You’ll join Eneco’s proprietary trading team: a small, highly experienced group of traders based in the Netherlands. Given the speed of the market and the collaborative way the desk operates, physical presence in the office is essential to how the team works and performs.

The team brings together fundamental trading expertise, proprietary risk‑taking and strong analyst support with quantitative insights. This combination allows you to move quickly, challenge perspectives and turn market signals into robust trading decisions.

Together, you work towards ambitious growth targets in a professional, performance‑driven environment where accountability, collaboration and commercial sharpness go hand in hand.
