What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manager in Engineering platforms for the Backend team, you will lead at the intersection of backend .NET development and platform engineering. Your mission is to elevate our API management capabilities, establish best practices across our backend services, and build a culture of reliability and operational excellence. You will lead both the people and the technical strategy, grow a high-performing team while drive hands-on improvements to our cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and developer experience. 

Is this about you?

Required 

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience. 

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure strongly preferred) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Bicep, or similar). 

  • Proven track record leading engineering teams focused on backend development, platform engineering. 

  • Strong backend development background, ideally with .NET/C#, including API design and micro services architecture. 

  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes (AKS preferred), CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and automation. 

  • Experience establishing API management practices — governance, versioning documentation, and developer portal strategies. 

  • Excellent communicator who can engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Passionate about mentoring engineers and building inclusive, high-performing teams. 

  • Ability to set technical direction while balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform vision. 

 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience with our specific toolchain: Azure DevOps, GitHub, Dynatrace, Snyk, and Rootly. 

  • Familiarity with API gateway technologies (e.g., Azure API Management or similar). 

  • Background in establishing and measuring SLOs/SLIs and running incident response processes. 

  • Hands-on experience with Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs), whether building them from the ground up or contributing to existing platforms.

You’ll be responsible for

API Management & Backend Excellence 

  • Define and drive the API management strategy, establishing governance, versioning, security standards, and documentation practices that raise the bar across the organisation. 

  • Lead the design and development of scalable and high-quality core .NET backend services and APIs, ensuring alignment with architectural best practices to support product teams across the organization. 

  • Lead the design and development of core modules and service templates as a foundation for product teams to develop their own services.  

  • Champion coding standards, code reviews, automated testing, security and continuous integration to maintain a high-quality bar. 

 

Platform Engineering & Infrastructure 

  • Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (ADO) and GitHub, enabling fast, safe, and repeatable deployments. 

  • Contribute to self-service platforms and internal tooling that empower development teams to ship with confidence and autonomy. 

  • Champion observability, monitoring, and alerting using Dynatrace; establish meaningful SLOs and SLIs across services. 

  • Integrate and manage security scanning (Snyk) and incident management (Rootly) into everyday engineering workflows. 

  • Drive automation to eliminate toil, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate developer productivity. 

 

Leadership & Team Development 

  • Oversee the engineering team’s daily operations and take accountability for delivery outcomes. 

  • Collaborate with platform owners, architects, and stakeholders to define requirements and determine suitable technical solutions. 

  • Set technical direction and vision for your domain, ensuring alignment with the wider engineering strategy of Eneco. 

  • Coach and mentor engineers with the help of the Eneco Perform and Grow structure, supporting their professional growth while fostering a collaborative, high-trust team culture. 

  • Facilitate continuous improvement and knowledge sharing; foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and learning. 

  • Manage team performance, providing constructive feedback and career guidance.

Gross annual salary between €95.000 and €140.000

Hybrid working: home, office or abroad

Work 40% at the office, 40% from home, and 20% flexibly. With manager approval, you may work abroad (within approved countries) up to 3 weeks/year, max 2 consecutively.
