Engineering Lead Infrastructure (Cloud, Hosting & Networking)

Apply
  • Own the digital foundation of the energy transition
You lead the infrastructure services that enables Eneco’s platforms, data, and digital products - securely and at scale.

  • Balance stability with innovation
This role sits exactly where operational excellence meets modernization and automation.

  • Build a strong in-house capability
You help shape and grow Eneco’s internal infrastructure expertise while working with strategic partners.

Why choose Eneco?

Eneco is on a mission to become climate neutral by 2035. Our One Planet Plan is one of the most ambitious sustainability strategies in Europe, and technology is a critical enabler.

Our Digital & Tech organization is responsible for building the platforms and infrastructure that make this ambition possible - from cloud and data to enterprise systems and digital products. As Engineering Lead Infrastructure, you play a key role in making sure this foundation is secure, scalable, and future-ready.

What you’ll do

Eneco’s infrastructure landscape is growing in scale and complexity. Cloud adoption is accelerating, security requirements are increasing, and more responsibility is shifting in-house.

As Engineering Lead Infrastructure, you lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for cloud, hosting, and networking services. Your role is to ensure these services are reliable today and ready for tomorrow. The team is growing and building up as we plan to operate more roles in-house than today. You have a mix of senior content experience in the field, able to drive our strategic roadmap in this space, but also to help build and shape an expert team.

You operate close to both technology and people. You guide engineers, work with suppliers, and partner with business stakeholders to deliver infrastructure solutions that support Eneco’s digital ambitions - without compromising security, stability, or cost efficiency.

This role requires hands-on technical leadership combined with a strategic mindset: knowing when to improve, when to standardize, and when to protect operational continuity. You operate in a fast-paced environment with evolving business demands.

Is this about you?

You are a technically strong infrastructure professional with leadership ambition. At heart, you’re still an engineer - hands-on, sharp on content, and comfortable challenging decisions at a technical level - but you’re ready to grow into a broader managerial role.

You thrive in complex environments where reliability, security, and innovation must coexist. You understand that scaling infrastructure isn’t just about technology - it’s about building the right team and operating model around it.

The team is growing, and more capabilities are moving in-house. That means you’ll help shape both the strategic roadmap and the expert team that delivers it. You combine strategic thinking with operational execution and feel equally confident working with engineers, architects, suppliers, and business stakeholders.

You are action-driven, structured, and focused on results - without losing sight of long-term platform health.

You Bring

  • A solid foundation in infrastructure engineering and operations, backed by a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), hosting environments, and networking concepts such as SD-WAN and SASE.
  • Experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code, enabling scalable and repeatable solutions.
  • Proven experience leading small teams, managing projects, and working with external suppliers.
  • A strong understanding of security, compliance, and risk management in enterprise environments.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to translate technical complexity into actionable decisions.
  • Strategic thinking combined with strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.

You’ll be responsible for

  • Leading, building and developing a small, high-performing infrastructure engineering team

  • Designing, operating, and Improving and operating cloud, hosting, and networking services

  • Ensuring infrastructure and platforms are secure, compliant, resilient, and cost-effective

  • Driving automation, E2E monitoring, standardization, and operational excellence

  • Managing multiple projects and external suppliers, driving optimization of costs and security

  • Translating business requirements into scalable infrastructure solutions

  • High availability, security, and performance, with minimal downtime.

  • Supporting the business teams, ensuring high user and stakeholder satisfaction.

This is where you’ll work

You’ll work within Enterprise IT Solutions capability focusing on Workplace, Infrastructure and Operations -  leading the Infrastructure Engineering capability that supports:

  • Support Functions (Finance, Procurement, HR)

  • Asset-heavy domains such as Operations, Maintenance, and Logistics

  • Other Eneco departments and projects.

You collaborate closely with product teams, architects, security, and external partners. We work hybrid, combining focused work from home with collaboration at our Rotterdam HQ.
